KEIKI AFTERSCHOOL ENRICHMENT program

The Keiki Afterschool Enrichment Program (KAEP) is Hale Halawai's response to the lack of a consistent afterschool programming on the north shore of Kaua'i. We work with children in grades K-6. Our program staff meet the children at Hanalei School and walk them to our facility, where they engage them in a number of activities. Each day our team spends an hour tutoring the children on their homework so that they always leave the program with their studies complete. After that, they take part in activities such as gardening, team sports, excursions, and arts & Hawaiian cultural education. In the garden, the children learn about planting and weeding, the nutritional value of what they grow, and how to use it to prepare easy snacks. During team sports, the children learn the importance of exercise for their health, teamwork, and sportsmanship through games like soccer and capture the flag. Through special excursions, the children learn the historical, cultural and environmental value of Hanalei’s places and take part in fun activities like surf lessons at Hanalei Bay. With the arts, children learn to tap into their creativity through various craft projects and Hawaiian cultural practices like playing mele on the ukulele and dancing hula.
Registration is open all year around and billing is done monthly or quarterly, preferably through our childcare platform ProCare. We accept both credit card and bank transfer. We also work with low-income families in need of financial assistance for childcare and children struggling academically.
